FAQs Passive Dosimetry

You can ask us for a non-binding quotation by e-mail or using the online contact form. You just need to provide the company name, address and the preferred start date.

With a change of ownership, the party leaving has to provide written notice. An e-mail to info@dosilab.ch is sufficient, stating the end date (at some point in the future) and the reason (e.g. the practice is changing hands). Once notice has been received, this will be duly confirmed and the final invoice will be drawn up. A new contract will be concluded with the party taking over. For quotation purposes, please give us the practice name and both the postal and e-mail address.

No, any registration or deregistration of people, or changes in personal details, must be made in writing. Please use the online form at www.dosilab.ch, under Forms/Contact (no login needed), or enter the changes via our dosiWEB online platform (account registration required).

No, once a dosimeter has been packed and sent off, it needs to be read on its return. Both the customer and the Federal Office of Public Health will be sent the readings. So dosimeters cannot be deregistered with retroactive effect.

All changes that reach us by the 10th day of the following month will be taken into account for packing purposes for the next month. Changes that reach us after the 10th day of a wearing month will only be taken into account for the next wearing period.

"P" stands for "packed", which means the dosimeter has been packed and sent to a customer, but no readings are available yet.
This may happen if a dosimeter has yet to reach Dosilab by the time the dose report was produced.

The sending of new dosimeters is scheduled to ensure that customers receive these between the 25th and the last day of any given month. Please contact us by phone if dosimeters have not arrived by then.

Dosimeters must be returned no later than the 10th day of the month following a wearing month.

Please return dosimeters in the blue transport box and apply the pre-franked return label to the outside.
If you do not have any blue transport boxes, dosimeters can be sent in a padded envelope instead. Please do not use normal paper envelopes, as these will be damaged by the sorting machines used by the postal service, and the dosimeters will be lost.

Please return the dosimeters that you do have by the relevant deadline. The missing dosimeters can be sent later. In any case, you will receive a reminder letter if a dosimeter has still not been returned after 60 days.

Reminder letters are sent automatically. It may be the case that a reminder letter is sent out at the same time a dosimeter is returned. Please contact Dosilab to check if this has happened.

No, dosimeters are always issued by Dosilab for a specific wearing period (as indicated by the month stated and the colour code) and must be evaluated by our laboratory after that. If a dosimeter is worn beyond the defined wearing period, this may lead to inaccurate or incorrect readings.

The whole-body dosimeter must always be worn across the chest, subject to certain exceptions (e.g. the dosimeter should be worn across the stomach during pregnancy). The Federal Office of Public Health has put together some guidance on this:

In Switzerland, there are two categories:

- Category A for people who may get an effective dose of over 6 mSv, an equivalent dose for eye lenses of over 15 mSv, or an equivalent dose for skin, hands or feet of over 150 mSv per year.

- Category B for people who do not come under Category A and for whom a negligible risk exists.
The classification is clearly defined in Art. 52 of the Radiological Protection Ordinance (https://www.fedlex.admin.ch/eli/cc/2017/502/de#art_52).

When the Radiological Protection Ordinance (RPO) came into force on 1 January 2018, the mandatory yellow dose document ceased to apply. But people exposed to radiation at work are entitled to comprehensive documentation of their dose readings, and the authorisation holder is responsible for this. On the results sheet, you will see the values Hp (10) and HP (0.07) for each person. In the dose document, enter the cumulative Hp (10) value for the year in the Hp column and the cumulative Hp (0.07) value for the year in the Hs column. The key for the columns can be found in the dose document, to the right of the table.

Yes, a separate dosimeter is needed for each location, otherwise a dose can no longer be attributed to a location (a device). Wearers must inform the other practices about monthly doses.

Yes, although people under 16 years of age must not be exposed to radiation at work.

The dosimeter is to be worn across the stomach.

As someone has suffered irradiation, the reading becomes a matter of urgency. The dosimeter must be sent by A Mail (with franking done by the practice) in a blue box or properly packaged inside a padded air mail envelope to the Head of Personal Dosimetry at Dosilab AG. The incident must be reported immediately, in as much detail as possible, via e-mail to Dosilab AG. The description must cover what exactly happened and which dosimeter is involved (wearer, wearing month, type of dosimeter, e.g. whole-body dosimeter or over-apron dosimeter). A replacement dosimeter can be ordered by phone.

Dosilab AG invoices customers on account for around 80% of the anticipated annual fees. The number of dosimeters invoiced corresponds to around 80% of the annualised number of dosimeters per entity, with this annual figure based on the number needed in the wearing month of January.

At the end of the year, Dosilab AG draws up a final invoice for the number of dosimeters actually used and the overall transport costs, less the payment received in advance.

Invoices other than invoices on account and final invoices may relate to the following:
- Invoice for dosimetry services: Customers who use a very large number of dosimeters may be issued quarterly invoices for the number of dosimeters actually used, rather than invoices on account and final invoices.
- Invoice for lost dosimeters (following notification by the customer, or if missing dosimeters have still not been returned by the deadlines stated in reminder letters).
- Invoice for dosimeters damaged by the customer

Unfortunately, we are no longer able to arrange a credit for previously invoiced dosimeters, even if they turn up again later (see the General Terms and Conditions of Business).

We issue an invoice twice a year (invoice on account at the start of the year, final invoice at the end of the year). The amount for the final invoice is generally lower than for the invoice on account. So any overpayment will be repaid to the bank account you specified. For technical and accounting reasons, automatic deductions from the next invoice, to account for overpayments, are not possible.

First of all, you should insert the APD into one or two other slots on the station, and the dosimeter will then reset itself.
If this does not work, the dosimeter can be reset as follows:
- Pierce the black dot on the "Reset" label on the back of the APD with a paper clip
- Push the paper clip in until you feel some resistance (Reset button)
- The APD will then reset itself automatically
The dosimeter can then be inserted into a slot on the station once more.
If the APD is still showing up red / "Fault" on the station or no green dot appears on the APD’s screen, please contact the customer service department at Dosilab.

If communication with the server is interrupted, a red bar will appear with the comment "DB fault" or "Server fault". Please check the network at your organisation.

If the button is broken, the APD screen will no longer switch on. Please contact us about returning the dosimeter for repair.
